In the May issue of Business Solutions magazine, Jamie Brenzel, CEO of KineticD, discusses cloud pitfalls VARs and MSPs should watch out for in, “Do You Make These Cloud Security Mistakes?” Brenzel offers practical advice on topics such as choosing between public cloud and private cloud offerings, and he also gets into the importance of protecting your customers’ data from the point it leaves their facility to the point it gets to a SAS 70-audited data center.
I highly recommend Brenzel’s advice, but I’m also really intrigued by a whole different approach MSP Jenaly Technology Group President MJ Shoer shared with me recently that he’s taking. Last year, during one of his quarterly Robin Robins meetings with 16 other MSPs, various members started offering up concerns with selling cloud solutions ᅳ ranging from security to low profit margins. Before long, one group member suggested that all the MSPs start their own cloud service company, so they would have full control over the services they were reselling. In next month’s issue of Business Solutions magazine, I’ll share MJ Shoer’s story about why he made the decision, and the role his newly formed joint venture, TOGL, is playing in his projected 30% growth this year.
